SUMMARY:SALTISE Conference 2025 | Connecting Communities Over a Decade: Reflections on past\, purpose\, and path ahead
DESCRIPTION:This year SALTISE invite the community of educators (practitioners and researchers) to reflect on the journey of advancing pedagogy and purpose in education. Over the past decade and a half\, guided by evidence-informed practices and a commitment to innovation\, SALTISE has fostered the development of a vibrant and collaborative community that uses tools\, resources\, and learning environments to empower both teachers and learners. \nThe conference theme\, Connecting Communities Over a Decade: Reflections on past\, purpose\, and path ahead\, encourages us to explore how reflecting on the past can guide us in addressing today’s challenges and shaping a hopeful future for education. What can we learn from the progress made? How can these insights inspire and inform new possibilities in teaching and learning? \nJoin SALTISE on June 4 & 5\, 2025\, at Dawson College for 2 days of thoughtful dialogue\, exchange\, and collaboration. Through a variety of presentation formats—including individual talks\, symposia\, posters\, and interactive sessions—it’s the occasion to reflect on where we’ve been and envision where we are headed.

SUMMARY:AQPC Webinar | Prioritizing the Creative Brain: Turning (Dreaded) Reading Requirements into Art!
DESCRIPTION:In this interactive workshop\, participants will learn how to guide learners in creating blackout poems—an artistic process that fosters a personal and meaningful connection with any written material\, regardless of discipline. This engaging activity enhances comprehension\, retention\, and concentration skills—all while sparking creativity and fun. \nThe resulting poetry is unique to each learner and can be enriched with complementary mediums such as drawing or music\, reflecting the essence of their creation. This process offers a valuable window into the learner’s understanding and celebrates their individuality. \nWhether done individually or in teams\, blackout poetry supports the development of transversal competencies like critical thinking\, creativity\, and emotional expression. It can serve as a personal assignment\, a class exhibit\, or even a submission for publication—offering a wide range of possibilities that build confidence and encourage self-expression. \n\nWebinar presented by Colleen Ayoup and Max Salonine\, Vanier College\nRegistration mandatory\nThis webinar is offered with simultaneous interpretation in French

SUMMARY:AQPC | Video Rubrics: Helping Students Make Sense of Assessment Criteria
DESCRIPTION:A video rubric is an interactive video in which a teacher has recorded themselves thoroughly explaining an assignment’s instructions and marking guidelines to their students. The interactive component comes when students are prompted with multiple choice\, true-false\, or short answer questions throughout the video. This pedagogical tool is designed to support students in drafting and editing their assessments and to mitigate the negative impacts of the time gap between the teacher delivering the instructions and the student completing the assessment. This increases equity\, accessibility\, and motivation of the modern student. Presenters from four different programs at Vanier College will share and demonstrate their experiences in creating videos and converting them into rubrics for various assessments. Participants will discuss\, brainstorm\, and can be supported in recording drafts for future implementation in their practice. \n\nPresented by Tim Campbell\, Karl Laroche\, Stacey DeWolfe and Sonny Ruffolo\, Vanier College\nRegistration mandatory

SUMMARY:AQPC Webinar | Supporting Transitions to Higher Education for Current and Former Youth in Care
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, approximately 2\,000 youth in the care of the Department of Youth Protection leave care. At just 18 years old\, they are left to fend for themselves\, with no clear pathway to accessing support for housing\, healthcare\, or education. In this session\, we will share the results of a research project completed in December 2024. This project led to 16 concrete recommendations for CEGEPs to better support the admission\, retention and success of these young people in higher education programs in Quebec. We will also briefly discuss how John Abbott College is implementing these recommendations.

SUMMARY:AQPC | A Certificate and Experiential Learning Program at Champlain Saint-Lambert
DESCRIPTION:The Champlain College Saint-Lambert “Millennial Certificates Program” was launched in Fall 2022. \nThis popular co-curricular program is now at full capacity\, becoming a stable part of the college campus and providing various benefits to learners\, faculty mentors and the campus as a whole. \nWith the addition of new certificate themes\, the use of an experiential learning platform to track student portfolios\, and the implementation of badges to recognize students’ achievements\, the program serves as a powerful example of the evolution of higher education learning pathways. \nThis program lets students choose from among multiple themes and nurtures students’ interests in learning about and improving the world (and the college) in a flexible manner\, operating outside and alongside their college coursework. Students’ independent learning and experiential activities can also be connected to in-class curricula\, allowing learners to make connections between courses and their certificate theme and develop increasingly valuable competencies in critical thinking\, leadership\, and creativity. \nThis presentation will explain the structure of the MCP\, the mechanics by which students are awarded certificates and the way participating students and faculty mentors are coordinated. Highlights from alumni and active student experiences will give attendees a concrete sense of the program and illustrate why it is worth considering launching a certificate program in their own institution.

SUMMARY:Éductive Lunch & Learn | How to Create Your Own Escape Game
DESCRIPTION:In this interactive session\, participants will learn how to transform their learning objectives into engaging challenges by designing their own educational escape game. The session will introduce the key principles and components of escape games and highlight how this learning activity can foster active learning\, collaboration\, and problem-solving in the classroom. Participants will explore strategies for creating puzzles aligned with course objectives and technological tools (including AI) to support the design process. Through concrete examples\, attendees will discover how escape games can be adapted to different disciplines and teaching contexts.\nParticipants will leave with a simple method and ready-to-use ideas for designing their own educational escape games.
