AQPC Webinar — Adult Learners: Experience and Expectation

When adult learners decide to return to higher education, whether for career opportunities or personal growth, they often experience barriers. This webinar will discuss the barriers many adult learners encounter when deciding to return to post-secondary education such as situational barriers, institutional barriers, and dispositional barriers. First, situational barriers will explore personal obstacles that involve domestic relationships and family obligations. The second will investigate the role of the institutional environment in supporting non-traditional students upon their return to higher education. Lastly, this webinar will probe the dispositional barriers, explicitly focusing on the participants’ attitudes and perceptions regarding gender, age, socioeconomic levels, and prior educational experiences.

This webinar will discuss the fundamental assumptions regarding the teaching-learning transaction and help teachers engage and adapt their instructional strategies to leverage adult learners’ experience, motivation, and willingness to learn.
