APOP’s English Service Continues Online and On Course

The newly formed APOP Anglophone Steering Committee recently assisted APOP with the hiring of a replacement for Anglo Project Manager Shujaat Wasty, who was lured away by the bright lights of Ottawa. Marielle Beauchemin, a teacher and researcher at Vanier, will be filling his shoes. We are very pleased about her appointment and confident that she will continue the advances that APOP has made in providing service in English to teachers mastering IT skills. Marielle’s qualifications include experience in Information Technology as a teacher, advisor and on-line instructor. Her doctoral thesis dealt with the development of a tool for improving the success rate for students enroled in hybrid courses.

This is the time to let the committee hear about your continuing education needs and wishes.

Marielle will begin her new position on December 14. She will assume the mantle of responsibility for APOP’s IT continuing education activities for Information Technology in English that were so successful last year. The Anglophone Steering Committee is currently selecting topics of interest and will be meeting with Marielle on December 10 to discuss plans for the Winter 2010 schedule. This is the time to let the committee hear about your continuing education needs and wishes for the coming year. Send any suggestions you have to itactivites@apop.qc.ca.

APOP activities in either French or English, are open to the anglophone members of the college network! Among IT education activities, the French language synchronous online dîners-causeries (Lunch and Learns), hosted on the VIA video teleconferencing platform, address a wide range of questions and problems related to IT integration. The French-language continuing education lunch and learn activties this fall have been extremely interesting and are free of charge. To take full advantage of these online events, ideally a webcam and a headset with a microphone are advisable. If you don’t have this equipment, however, you are still able to observe and participate via the Chat and online Interactive Whiteboard. You can find their schedule at the link just above, you can view recorded online activities and you may also sign up to receive notification of upcoming events in French and English by sending your email address to direction@apop.qc.ca.

All of the English APOP online events will be available to you this year free. Other online workshops in French are, of course, also open to the anglophone community. There is a $20.00 membership fee, however, and the costs are $190.00 for three hour workshops if your college is not a member of the Fonds collectif de perfectionnement (FCP). Check with your local IT Rep if you need more information.

These sessions are recorded as video capsules and placed in the APOP_junket section of the APOP site. Note that as the Winter 2010 English language activities take place, the English capsules will become available in the APOP_Junket section as well. There are currently more than 50 video capsules on numerous issues related to IT.

Remember – all of the English APOP online events will be available to you this year free of charge as well as the Lunch and Learns that take place in French.

More and more teachers and educators are using online communication. Without braving the elements, you are only a click away from teachers, professionals and resource people who are technology savvy and can respond to your queries. See how easy online continuing education advice can be. Click here to see a video of one of our sessions. We hope it will encourage you to plunge into APOP’s English or French activities and to join us in a world of online expertise and stimulating exchange. The APOP Anglophone Steering Committee is always on the look out for interested participants as well.
