Augmented Reality

The Wii console has already introduced many of us to the joys of augmented reality, where real and synthetic elements come together to play. Well, that’s just the beginning. The Xbox Natal project promises an interaction based solely on body and voice recognition. Meanwhile, using markers allows us to experiment with a new kind of interface for computers, and opens the door to unprecedented pedagogical applications.

The following video created at La Vitrine Technologie-Éducation shows several applications that are already available to anyone with a Web camera and a printer to reproduce the markers.

Augmented Reality

Your turn to play

You can find all the links to these applications on our Web site.

We recommend you follow a few instructions:

  • Print the markers on thin cardboard, or paste them onto cardboard so they remain stable.
  • The camera absolutely needs to see the markers’ borders; avoid hiding them with your fingers, or allow for a wider margin.
  • Make sure to have good front lighting or a well-lit workspace, so the camera can easily detect the markers.
