Collaborative annotations foster collaborative learning.

Collaborative learning connects several trends in digital pedagogy. From Open Educational Resources to solving “Super Wicked Problems” and from flipped classrooms to student ownership of reading assignments, several of the themes covered here have to do with collaboration among learners or between learners and teachers.

During this Eductive lab, we will assess the pedagogical impact of using collaborative annotation with students.

Objectives

  • Develop a pedagogical practice that involves insight from experience in collaborative annotation
  • Experiment with tools that support collaborative annotation
  • Examine issues and challenges surrounding collaborative annotation
  • Provide opportunities for pilot projects built around plugins for Learning Management Systems (LMS)

Timeline

The 1st online lab session took place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (EDT) on April 21st, 2022.

We expect pilot projects using LMS-based annotation tools to start during Fall semester, 2022. Based on these pilot projects, we will organize further lab sessions around more specific issues and challenges surrounding collaborative annotation.
