Step 1. Experimenting with LMS-Based Tools

During this first lab session, participants explored tools that enable collaborative annotations within a Learning Management System (LMS).

The tools we have selected for this lab session:

  • Annoto to annotate video content
  • Amanote for collaborative notetaking on presentation content
  • Hypothesis for social annotation on text content
  • Moodle as our LMS

Lab Session Summary

During this first step in the lab, we’ve:

  • Set the stage to discuss the pedagogical implications of collaborative annotations
  • Shared insight on use cases for annotations in learning contexts
  • Heard from guests associated with the three tools we can use to annotate collaboratively within Moodle (Amanote, Annoto, and Hypothesis)
  • Went into breakout rooms to test these tools and exchange ideas about how we might leverage them in collaborative learning
  • Wrapped up by discussing the impact of using these tools with learners
