Description of Objective 4.1 – Remote Communications
This objective requires that students engage with others using digital tools in order to transfer or receive information, or to exchange on a given topic.
Students must first determine the objectives and context of the communication in order to better understand the task to complete, then select an appropriate tool. They must anticipate all logistical and technical requirements to ensure the success of their actions. They must also be able to use correctly the features of the tool selected in order to adequately initiate communication. Finally, students must apply good practices in relation with online communications and keep records of the messages or exchanges in order to follow-up properly.
4.1.1 – Specify the nature and context of remote communication
This task aims to classify an online communication activity according to the needs to be addressed.
In order to adequately define the objectives and context of such a communication, students are invited to identify the needs and goals of the activity. They must also identify those aspects that are susceptible to influence their choices and mode of operations.
4.1.2 – Select the appropriate communication tool
This task is to select the tool that best meets the needs of the type of online communication to be performed.
To adequately select the tool that will best suit all of the individuals involved, students must take into account the characteristics of the information to be transferred, the features and characteristics of the tool as well as the context in which the communication will take place.
4.1.3 – Anticipate the communication’s logistical and technical aspects
This task consists of foreseeing the means required to establish the effective organization of the communication activity. Technical aspects related to the communication tool must also be considered. This step will result in communication without any complications.
To do so, students must plan the unfolding of the activities, determine the materials required and specify the mode of operations by carrying out the checks and operations required.
4.1.4 – Establish communication
This task requires students to use the features of the communication tool correctly.
To achieve their objectives, students must be able to perform different operations that are specific to online communication.
4.1.5 – Apply best practices in virtual communication
At this stage, students must be able to apply best practices in activities related to communications.
This task consists of respecting the rules of online communications in the context of a remote work environment.
4.1.6 – Keep track of own communications
This task consists of taking the necessary steps to keep track of one’s communications, therefore guaranteeing access to them later and thus ensure tracking if requested.
