Description of Objective 5.2 – Learn on a Self-Sustaining Basis

This objective might seem insignificant at first, but it becomes very important at college and in one’s work and life as a citizen. Students must know how to manage their time and their workload, and technology can help them to achieve this efficiently. They must also be able to learn independently by regularly keeping themselves informed of new applications and using online resources in order to continue their education and professional development.

5.2.1 – Organize own schedule and tasks

It is essential to organize efficiently one’s schedule and workload if we want to achieve our objectives, both pedagogical and professional, whether it is for daily tasks or long term projects.

This task presents different practices to students that will help them be more efficient in managing their time and workload using technology, both in an individual and group context. It may be for managing workload and appointments, planning assignments and timetables, planning resources, manage contacts or optimizing work tools.

5.2.2 – Explore new software

Students learn how to use data mining techniques and different help resources to explore new applications based on their needs.

This task consists of understanding the purpose, the context and the potential of an application that they might know a little bit or not at all and to feel comfortable with its vocabulary, work environment and operation.

5.2.3 – Search and use available online learning resources

Independent learning using online resources is both part of the academic context as well as of professional development in continuing education.

This task consists of carrying out online learning activities independently. Students use interactive or non-interactive resources to support the development of different skills and aptitudes according to their field of study.
