‘Generations’ – Facing the New Reality of College Teachin
For the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, the pedagogical workshops of the ACPQ (Association des collèges privés du Québec) will take place on May 26 and 27, 2008 at the Château Mont Ste-Anne which is near the provincial capital. The theme of the meeting is Generations which is inspired by the history of our province and its educational heritage as well as the road that stretches before us.

How will our students who are products of the recent reforms in education change the college landscape? Educational consultant, Paul Inchauspé will open the sessions by looking at Quebec’s current challenges to curriculum reform at the secondary level within a historical perspective. The organizing committee has worked hard to offer workshops which will help teachers to face the new realities of college teaching which include the use of information technology (IT).
As IT has become a constant in an evolving environment and a necessity for student success, participants are invited to workshops dealing with leading edge topics such as:
- Electronic Plagiarism and IT,
- Online Supervision of ‘Stages’,
- Integrating IT into Academic Practice,
- Using IT for Teamwork,
- Course notes with Adobe Captivate.
The program Excel will be demonstrated as a presentation tool rather than a spreadsheet. Strategies to orient teachers’ academic practice as well as examples from the classroom are planned. Several workshops will focus on student success as it is a key concern in academic planning. Subjects as varied as spirituality, the changing of the academic guard, college services, intellectual property, teamwork and stress management will be presented. There are forty-six (46) workshops of which eight will be in English. There will be a varied selection of lectures, conferences with participant interaction, hands-on workshops, roundtables and physical activities. This annual event of the private college network is pleased to welcome the personnel of the IT Partners as resources. This year staff from APOP, DECclic, Profweb, and the IT Representatives’ Network will be in attendance.
Mrs. Jenny Lower, assistant to the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Université Laval will close the event with a lighthearted look at the differences between the new and past generations.
