Following discussions between Collecto and the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) over the past few months, we regret to announce the end of the Web Space service in December 2024. This decision was taken jointly with the MES, which funded this service that falls under Collecto’s responsibility through its Eductive.ca platform.

Initially managed by Profweb, Web Space has been available since 2006 to pedagogical staff in the college network to host individual course sites, as well as publicly accessible digital teaching resources. In recent years, the service has undergone a series of updates to make it more secure and efficient.

With the coming into force of the Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information (Bill 25), Collecto wishes to help pedagogical staff in the college network to adopt secure environments such as Microsoft 365 and Moodle. Web Space no longer met minimum standards for cybersecurity and the new regulations in this area. In addition, a number of institutions have expressed the desire to take responsibility for local security measures for pedagogical sites created by their pedagogical staff.

Against this backdrop of digital transformation and rapidly evolving technologies, Collecto and the MES jointly concluded that this service was no longer a viable solution to meet the growing needs of all college network stakeholders.

Accompanying measures

The Collecto team will be deploying a number of measures to support users in their transition to the new pedagogical environment they choose.

  • Synchronous training courses [in French] on the integration of the Microsoft SharePoint and Moodle platforms in a pedagogical context will take place during the week of May 27, 2024. These activities will be announced in our french newsletter shortly. These courses will also be repeated in the fall of 2024.
  • A self-paced training course “Learning Moodle with Moodle” [in French] will be rolled out in June 2024.
  • A Frequently Asked Questions section [in French] will be available online to answer your questions.
  • A ticketing service is already available on an ongoing basis to answer general questions from users via a form on the Contact Us page.

While the closure of the Web Space service may cause some inconvenience to users, this step reflects changes in the educational and technological landscape and underscores the importance of adapting to ensure the safety and efficiency of pedagogical support.

Still have questions? Please visit the Web Space page [in French]. You’ll find all the information you need about the discontinuation of this service. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
